Clostridium botulinum is a toxin more commonly known as Botox. There are a few other brand names for this toxin, but Botox is the most widely used. Botulinum toxin works by preventing muscle contraction in the muscles it is injected into. This results in smoother skin and reduces the appearance of wrinkles.
It is most commonly injected into the forehead, the frown lines between the eyes (the glabella) and the crow’s feet on the sides of the eyes. There are more advanced injection areas but you will need to discuss that with Dr. Senger at the time of consultation.
LIV RENEW offers all 3 types of botulinum toxin currently on the market. They are Botox, Dysport and Xeomin. All 3 types of botox work the same way and typically last 3-4 months. They may even last as long as 6 months in certain patients. Each type of botox has slight differences and will work differently depending on your individual response.
BOTOX – This is the most commonly known botox because it was first to arrive to the market. It typically starts working 3-4 days after injection and lasts on average 4 months. Because it was the first botulinum product to the market, it is also the most studied. It is currently FDA approved for crows feet and frown lines. Results from the injection may start to appear in as little as 48 hours however for results are typically seen after one week. We are a partner with Allergan Cosmetic and provide the Brilliant Distinctions Rewards program for our patients.
DYSPORT – Similar to Botox, Dysport is an FDA-approved for treatment for frown lines. It is concentrated differently and therefore an injector must be experienced with how to prepare and administer Dysport. Some clinicians report that it spreads further and more evenly than Botox and may require different injection techniques. Some patients feel that Dysport can produce a stronger, more even appearance than Botox, while others still prefer Botox as a more reliable and more familiar product. Dysport is different from Botox and Xeomin in that it may start working in as little as one day. Its duration of action is typically the same as the other two but individual results may vary
XEOMIN – This Botulinum product is relatively new to the game and has only been around a couple years. It is different from Botox and Dysport in that it is a purified protein and does not contain the accessory proteins that botox and dysport do. This means that it could potentially last longer in someone that is not having reliable results with Botox or Dysport due to antibody activity against those products with prolonged use. Otherwise, the onset of action and duration of effectiveness is similar to Botox.
